4 day group educational holiday

Day 1

After travelling to the Snowy Mountains and arriving into Talbingo in the late afternoon, Dinner will be provided in the Dinning area of the accommodation. Perhaps the teachers could take the children for a walk along the picturesque Lake Jounama in the evening.

Day 2

Up for breakfast in the dinning room before heading off to explore the wonderful Snowy Mountains. Talbingo to Kiandra will take approximatley 40 minutes in a bus.

Watch as you drive along Long Plain for the wild brumbies, the amazing wildlife and wild flowers dancing in the wind.

Then you will arrive in Kiandra.

Kiandra is an abandonded gold mining town that had a population of over 15000. Kiandra is also known for being one of the first areas in Australia to have a ski lift.

Things to see at Kiandra:

  • View the Old Court House & 3 Mile Dam
  • View the native flora and fauna, the area is also an ideal place for bird watching & taking photos of the wild life, you will often see wild brumbies.
  • Take one of the historical walking trails to view the relics of the Australian Pioneering History, including old mining equipment and old Grave sites.

After viewing Kiandra, head to Yarangobilly caves for lunch, then enjoy all the caves have to offer.

Things to do at the caves:

  • Self guided tour of South Glory Cave.
  • Guided tours of Jersey Cave or Jillabenan Cave. Both these caves date back to over 700,000 years.
  • Take a swim in the Theraml Pools, which is 27 degrees all year round.There is a childrens wading pool and a 20 metre long pool.

After your day exploring, head back to your accommodation for some dinner. rest and relaxation.

Day 3

Up for breakfast in the dinning room before heading off to the National Park Discovery Program in Tumut. This program was designed to ensure curriculam outcomes are achieved through hands on experience, this is delivered by professional and trained National Park and Wildlife Service staff.

This program includes the following activities:

  • Guided bush walks to discover hidden secrets left behind
  • Bush Tucker walks, discover how the Wiradjuri people lived and survived in the harsh landscape
  • Night Stalks, watch and learn about the native nightlife.
  • Boomerang Painting & throwing.
  • Traditional Shelters used by the Aboriginal people, see how they made them and explore their way of life and how they lived.
  • Riverglade Wetland Walk.
  • Basket Weaving.
  • Water Detective, learn about macro invertebrates or water bugs.
  • Traditional Bush Tools, have a go at making your own bush tools.
  • Didgeridoo and Clap stick education, learn how they are made and try to keep the beat while playing your own clap sticks.

There are other activities also in the Discovery program, you can make a package that will suit your schools needs.

Day Four

Up for breakfast in the dinning room before, packing and making your way home.

The drive home can usually be boring and long for the students, break the day up and stop along the way at the following spots:

  • Adaminaby Snowy Collections Museum
  • Snowy Hydro Education Centre, Cooma
  • The Big Merino, Goulburn
  • Questacon or the War Memorial in Canberra
